Getting the Emissions Data You Actually Need

CBAM doesn't just want a weight and a country of origin — it wants embedded emissions traced back to a specific installation, production process and set of source streams, split into direct and indirect emissions, with any carbon price already paid abroad on top. Internally, that means tying every shipment to the right CN code and aggregated goods category; externally, it means getting suppliers to disclose data most of them have never been asked for before.

Once you rely on actual values instead of defaults, that data also has to hold up: from 2026, embedded emissions determined from actual data must be checked by an accredited verifier before they can be declared. Skipping this isn't an option if you want the — usually lower — actual-values cost instead of the conservative default.

Cora's supplier survey is built around exactly this data set — installation details, production process, source streams, emission method and carbon price paid — walked through step by step so a supplier who's never seen a CBAM form before can still complete it, including suppliers running more than one installation, where each site's data stays separate but rolls up into a single supplier view. The supplier benchmark then shows you, supplier by supplier, whether you're actually using their real numbers or still falling back to the default.
