source stream

Regulatory source: Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2547, Article 1(8)
Definition
(a) a specific fuel type, raw material or product giving rise to emissions of relevant greenhouse gases at one or more emission sources as a result of its consumption or production; (b) a specific fuel type, raw material or product containing carbon and included in the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions using a mass balance method
More context

A source stream is a specific fuel, raw material or product that gives rise to emissions at an installation — the actual inputs an operator has to track to calculate direct emissions. For each source stream, operators record both the quantity used (activity data) and factors like emission factor, calorific value and carbon content, then combine the two to work out direct emissions from that stream.
