indirect emissions
Regulatory source: Regulation (EU) 2023/956, Article 3(34)
Definition
emissions from the production of electricity which is consumed during the production processes of goods, irrespective of the location of the production of the consumed electricity
More context
Indirect emissions apply to the electricity used during production, wherever that electricity itself was generated. They're calculated using a default method unless the declarant can show the stricter conditions for using actual data are met. Where a production process draws electricity from more than one source, indirect emissions are worked out as a weighted average across those sources — unless the declarant can prove only one source, or a defined subset, was actually used.
